12:14 AM
i'm in a bad mood. i was driving home and as i came round the corner, the
headlights of my truck suddenly spotlighted a dead coyote to the side of
the road. some driver who was most likely speeding had hit him as he was
running across.
i'm in my office now listening to all the cicadas which are loud and
complex rhythmically and there is an owl hooting outside and a distant
train whistle blowing. my heart expands within the sound of that owl.
i love this time of year. it is no longer summer but it isn't quite autumn.
in the winter, when i am home and the cicadas aren't there, i feel so
alone.
i'd rather hear cicadas and owls than car alarms and sirens and
street-sweepers and thumping car speakers and shouting roving groups of
drunks.
please drive carefully.
