My new album entitled "MAHAKALI", ( Kali is the feminine of "kala"- "darkness", Maha is "great" ) is named after the mythical indian goddess of death and destruction, as mentioned in the Mahabarata and other indian epics.
The idea of a 'goddess of destruction' is one that I've cherished for a long time. Cedric (Victor, bassist and visual collaborator) mentioned Kali when we were recording because of the thematic similarities to the songs I had already written. As we progressed with the recording, everything seemed to come together around this theme of respect/reverence for strength and simultaneous repulsion/fear of power. Kali's narrative also discusses Nietzsche's old adage that 'in fighting the monster, one must be careful that one does not become the monster' which seems to be a relevant message. - jarboe
The album is what Jarboe knows and does well and her signature voice comes across numerous "characters". Listeners will hear avant rock, epic-era Swans, ambient/noise references and orchestral instrumentation, in her characteristic collaborative method, the all-star line-up with special vocal contributions by Philip Anselmo (Down, Superjoint Ritual, Pantera) and Attila Csihar (Mayhem). This album features fine instrumental work by a variety of players from Kris Force ( Amber Asylum), Josh Graham (Red Sparrowes, Storm of Light), Vinny Signorelli ( Swans, Unsane ) and Julia Kent(Antony & The Johnsons). The series also includes raw atmospheric spoken word collaborations with Cedric Victor.
This website is the ONLY source for the entirety of the Goddess Of Change & Destruction series, from the Mahakali trinity to the Dark Consort. All fragments come signed by Jarboe.Each of the 3 versions (US digipak, US jewel case, EU digipak) contain most of the same material, however each version contains additional full tracks and bonus material that will vary from one release version to the other.
Additionally, an accompaniment to the release, a limited release additional CD, DARK CONSORT is being offered through the website as part of the Pandora's Box set.
The MAHAKALI releases all feature a minimum of 15 tracks per release, some of which are unique to that release. Included in this sampling are some of the pieces from each release as well as tracks from the website-only DARK CONSORT album.

Each of the Mahakali releases features unique material in addition to the 12 or so tracks. The bonus pieces are a way of changing/coloring the narrative, giving the listener more access to different voices and ideas. One of the challenges with a project this extensive was trying to fit everything into one CD or even two, which we couldn't do for a number of reasons.
A lot of approaches went into bringing this to you and beyond the unique pieces. As closure to the project, DARK CONSORT is a compilation of some of more experimental and very important material created for the album that ironically would otherwise have never seen the light of day.
