Outside my window now are the sounds of loud demonstrative crows. I’m sitting on an antigue sewing stool in front of the fan at my desk. This week has been one of simple summertime American pleasures : I enjoyed ‘delights’ cooked out on the grill and then savored poolside at a friend’s home, watched (and listened to ! ) the annual giant fireworks display amongst the crowd on the evening of July 4 , enjoyed pita with zatar and humus and a bright red sugary drink from Pakistan, let Hollywood seduce me in the form of Minority Report in an air – conditioned theatre at the mall. . . This weekend I mow the lawn, and jog the trail around the golf course in the divine humidity of the sultry Southern July dusk.
