Today I took the 6 train up to 86th Street and then walked to Fifth Avenue and 89th to the Guggenheim for the Matthew Barney installation. I spent the entire afternoon in the museum absorbing this work. It had a powerful affect upon me. It was one of a growing discomfort and nausea. In fact, after watching the Cremaster series and walking through the installation rooms, I was clutching my stomach in fascination, and revulsion. Also, the tribute to Houdini is now obvious. I don’t know why I didn’t see it before. I walked 100 blocks back down to Ludlow and Houston. Tomorrow I will again spend the entire day at the Guggenheim in the Barney installation exploring his Old Testament absurdity (Cremaster 3). My favorite is Cremaster 2 ‘s theme of Gary Gilmore. www.guggenheim.org …….I walked by St Bartholomew’s Church today and I hope to dine at their St Bart’s Cafe. I phoned Bartholomew in Atlanta excitedly. LATER : When I walked inside this building down on Ludlow, there were toilet bowl freshners hanging from the banisters. (Read previous entry.)
