I am in the process of listening deeply to the mixes for the album. I hear a few things to adjust and I am still exploring its world. It is warmer weather now but it also 10 times as busy. Thunder Perfect Mind was the text. A report on Saturday night’s live “illustrated word” performance : we had numerous technical difficulties. I was actually stunned at just how many obstacles there were in that regard! There was an interface problem between the two laptops and the mixer and the p.a. This means all of the composed music generated and played on those two laptops by two different musicians was essentially non existent to the audience. There was a bad connection that brought a scratchy into the vocal monitor. This meant the scratchy sound was in the p.a. The DVD carefully planned for the light show on stage did not play in the venue’s dvd machine. I suppose it had not been checked earlier. The electric guitarist on stage was thrown off by all of this and had no idea that the laptops were not in the p.a. I suppose… nor did he hear my voice through the monitor…so he played loud slabs of percussive sounds on the guitar and it was impossible to get a sense of it with the cadence of the narrative. I had to stand out of the way of his amp stack to avoid going deaf. The audience was unable to hear my voice when he played and it created an impossible audio field in which I felt as in a land mine. Next up was Scott Kelly of Neurosis. Dave (Neurosis’ sound man for 14 ? years) wisely put (acoustic that night) guitarist/singer Scott through a different channel and the sound was flawless! The organizers were very nice to me and I hope the technical aspects can be worked out so another future effort can be made elsewhere…
